SCEA study guide now on Rough Cuts

Well, the book draft has finally made it onto Rough Cuts here. All feedback is truly appreciated and we'll be looking to get a more rounded / completed version up as soon as possible.

Great to see the first draft.

Two comments though:

I would prefer all the answers for the questions at one place. Otherwise it's difficult not to see the answers too early.

Since chapters are mostly along the exam objectives as stated on SUN's site it would be nice to see a chapter on security as well.

Other than that I am looking forward to reading the next drafts.

Hi Humphrey,

It worries me that by time this book is out, the Java EE 6 based certification will be to making it out of date.

Hi

The JEE 6 certification won't make the book out of date, for two reasons:

1. The book is designed to be the study guide for the JEE 5 exam; and

2. The release date for the JEE 6 certification is not set in stone.

It is likely that the upgrade path from JEE 5 to JEE 6 will be the same as from J2EE to JEE 5 - retaking the multiple choice questions part (Part One of the exam). Those questions don't exist yet - they haven't been written - so it simply isn't possible to cover them in this iteration of the book.

Hi Humphrey,

I just purchased the rough cut and noticed it has only about 100 pages. The book information page says 288 pages. Is there so much information still missing or is the book just becoming shorter?

Hi Humphrey

Can you give us an indication when this book will be out proper?

Thanks

Hi damog

We're currently working with Songlin and Michelle at Pearson on the edits and I'm targeting end August to have those done. After that, it's down to post production, which I'm hoping will take circa one month. So, long story short, we're hoping to have the book published, both online and on dead trees, by the end of September.

RE: book length question, there are a lot of images and review questions / answers missing, and I don't think that the book will be just 107 pages long when it is published. I figure it should be closer to 200 pages, and probably over that once all the content goes in.
