Skillsmatter - Oct 16th presentation on SCEA

Sun UK have kindly invited me to speak as part of the Skills Matter program in London on October 16th. I'm looking forward to it and I'll be covering the topic of the Sun Certified Architect Exam (SCEA) for JEE 5 at this topic. A great way to learn about the exam if you're in London and are interested in pursuing this certification.

More details on the talk here.

Hi Humphrey. It's Jeremy here again. (The first one to arrive at presentation). Here are the links I promised:
Steven Haines book recommendations to becoming an architect on InformIT: 1 / 2.
Also the Interview questions book I've got from Lulu.
I'd be really interested if the questions in the latter would be enough to know to pass first part of architect's exam. Also if there are any online mock tests you can take to gauge how ready you are to take architect exam. I'd appreciate some feedback. Trying to pass the exam on a limited budget, so any other books that Steven Haines list doesn't cover that you think are essential reading would be greatly appreciated to. Does Java NIO get covered on any of the Java Certification Exams?

Was reading this article...

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-javaio/

Don't see it in SCJP for Java 6 index. Was wondering what exam would cover this aspect?

Hi Humphrey

I noticed in a presentation on the sun site that Mark Cade and yourself are releasing a book called Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for JEE Study Guide. I was just wondering when this book will be on release to be. If it is already on relase, where can i purchase it?

Thanks
Damien

Hi Jeremy

Thanks for the link on Java NIO. This topic isn't explicitly tested in the current version of the exam (targeting JEE 5) although it's a strong contender for inclusion into the next iteration that will target the JEE 6 platform.

Hi Damien

Good question - sometimes I ask myself the same thing!

We've written all the chapters and about 1/3 of them have been through peer review. The last two major tasks outstanding are the graphics needed for some chapters and we're also beefing up the sample questions section for Part One at the end of each individual chapter.

Long story short, we're working to get our final draft done and to the publisher in the next six weeks so that we can have the book ready for JavaOne this year at the start of June..

Hi Andrew

Well, we're shooting to have the book finished and into pre-production for end Feb and, assuming a burst of frantic activity the last couple of weekends in Feb, we're on track to do that. If we hit that date then the book will be available for purchase at JavaOne this year, in May.

Hi there Humphrey

Based on your last post saying "Well, we're shooting to have the book finished and into pre-production for end Feb and, assuming a burst of frantic activity the last couple of weekends in Feb, we're on track to do that. If we hit that date then the book will be available for purchase at JavaOne this year, in May."

Are you still on for that date?
